New York State of Mind
“I’m in a New York state of mind…“
In 30 days, I’m moving to New York City, and Billy Joel’s song keeps playing in mind. It’s probably way too soon for the lyrics to actually resonate with me, and I’m almost certainly just going by the title. Similarly, I keep hearing Don Henley’s New York Minute, which I was introduced to on The West Wing. (Perhaps I should take caution at “Somebody’s going to emergency, somebody’s going to jail.” )
Music aside, I’m a full fledged engineer as of the 8th of July 2018, when I got the results of my final semester. The next step is going to change my life completely - I have been given the opportunity to study at New York University, and on August 16th, I’ll land at JFK!
It’ll be very hard to leave Bangalore. I’ve been here since 2005 and I haven’t been more comfortable anywhere else (I grew up in half a dozen different places during my childhood). It’s going to be a huge culture shock for me, I think, and I hope I can cope with that. But the USA is the original melting pot and NYC especially has a reputation for being home to people from hundreds of different places, so I think I will be fine after all.
